What Is Botox?
Botox is an injectable treatment containing botulinum toxin type A and is considered one of the most effective treatments for reducing visible signs of ageing.
It works by targeting specific facial muscles responsible for the formation of expression lines. By temporarily reducing their activity, Botox limits the repetitive muscle contractions that cause wrinkles to appear on the skin.
Botox primarily treats dynamic expression lines by reducing the release of acetylcholine from motor neurons and therefore decreasing the contraction of the facial muscles.
It may also help delay the appearance and progression of static wrinkles, which develop over time due to factors such as skin quality, genetics, sun exposure, smoking, nutrition and hormonal changes.
Different Applications of Botox
Full Botox
Full Botox treatment targets the forehead, frown lines between the eyebrows and crow’s feet around the eyes.
The treatment creates a fresher and more rested appearance by softening visible expression lines without unnecessarily affecting the natural movement and expressiveness of the face.
Masseter Botox
Masseter Botox targets the muscles located along the sides of the jaw.
The treatment may help soften a square or muscular jawline, creating a slimmer and more balanced lower face.
It may also be considered for patients who experience excessive jaw clenching or teeth grinding, following an appropriate clinical assessment.
